 2023 Preview 


       Macon-East Academy completed the 2022 season with a 7-4 record. With their 2-2 region record and a third place finish in Class AA region one, the Knights earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Macon-East Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Clarke Prep by a score of 35-19.

       Since 2010, Macon-East Academy has gone a combined 72-71. Their 50.3% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AA over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Macon-East Academy has managed to compile a record of 171-109. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AA and 8th in the AISA.




       The Knights are led by head coach Glynn Lott who is entering his twenty-eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 177-122 over the past twenty-seven seasons at Macon-East Academy. Under his direction the Knights have qualified for the playoffs a total of nineteen times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Lott. Coach Lott led to a state championship in 2000. His 177 wins rank 3rd among active coaches in the AISA.

      

       The Knights open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Lakeside on Friday, August 25 at Reeves Field. Last year the Lakeside Chiefs finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class A region one. The Chiefs lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Jackson Academy by a score of 58-0.

       Macon-East Academy and Lakeside have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Knights have a 5-3-0 record against the Chiefs. They last met in 2022 with Macon-East Academy winning by a score of 33-18.

       Macon-East Academy lost AISA All-State  defensive lineman Wade Desmarais to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates running back Gabe Spencer, defensive lineman Hunter Timmerman and defensive back Sanders Manning.

       The Knights return AISA All-State Senior punter Dalton Nickles. He was named to the second team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
